The right line is not the one with the highest catalog speed, but the one that can sustainably manufacture your portfolio at the target quality and total cost.
Define the product portfolio before the equipment
The gelatin or pectin system, unit weight, active load, single or multiple colors, filling requirements and target shapes directly affect line architecture. An uncertain portfolio creates the risk of an overly expensive investment or one that quickly becomes inadequate.
Convert nominal capacity into real capacity
Catalog kg/hour values exclude losses from cleaning, changeovers, waiting, mold changes, coating and packaging. An OEE scenario should be built around the shift schedule and product mix.
Evaluate cooking and active addition together
Vacuum, temperature control, agitator geometry and transfer time determine final solids and viscosity. The active-addition point must be designed for homogeneity, loss and hold time.
Test depositing accuracy with the real formula
Results obtained with a water-like test liquid may not reveal dripping, stringing or weight variation in the actual gummy mass. FAT should target representative product behavior.
Choose the molding and curing approach
Starch molding offers flexibility but requires space, conditioning and starch management. Starchless systems may offer cleaning and compactness advantages; shape and process flexibility should be evaluated for the specific project.
Calculate cleaning and product changeovers
CIP scope, removable parts, dead legs, allergen policy and cleaning validation affect both hygiene risk and real capacity.
Compare suppliers through documentation
Material certificates, electrical drawings, spare-parts lists, software backups, manuals, remote support and training are integral parts of the technical proposal.
See the total cost of ownership
Supplier rankings may change once energy, molds, consumables, maintenance, service travel, spare parts and potential downtime are added to the purchase price.
