STABILITY GUIDE

# How should vitamin gummy shelf life be planned?

Shelf life is not only an active assay at the expiry date; it is the chemical, physical and sensory performance the product must preserve until consumption.

CONTENTS

## Separate risks by active ingredient

Vitamin sensitivity to heat, oxygen, light, pH and moisture depends on the compound used. Minerals do not break down like vitamins, but their chemical form, solubility and interactions with other ingredients can change. Assess the actual compounds and combinations in the product.

## Do not confuse process loss with shelf-life loss

A low initial result may reflect process loss, poor homogeneity or problems with sampling and analysis. Investigate these causes before attributing the result to storage. Use comparable samples and suitable analytical methods at subsequent test points.

## Monitor physical stability with chemical analysis

Moisture gain or loss can affect texture, surface sticking, crystallization and even active solubility. Weight, texture, water activity and appearance trends should be interpreted alongside chemical results.

## Make packaging a test variable

Bottles, caps, induction seals, desiccants, blisters and sachets provide different levels of protection for the same product. Target climate and in-use time after opening should be included in the packaging decision.

## Interpret accelerated results with care

High temperature and humidity do not always accelerate real-time behavior linearly. Accelerated studies provide early risk signals but should be supported by real-time data.

## Write acceptance criteria before the study starts

When decision limits for active content, sensory acceptance, texture, appearance, microbiology and package integrity are defined in advance, conclusions rely on rules rather than interpretation.
